By now, most people know that vegans don’t need to wash dishes or use a dishwasher.
But in many countries, the idea of “vegan” is more of a taboo and stigmatizing concept.
When we see people washing dishes, we often think of animals, but in the United States, the word “vegetarian” refers to any nonhuman animal that eats meat, dairy, eggs, or fish.
It’s a way of describing a lifestyle that is not inherently ethical.
It also has a negative connotation for vegans.
“If you’re not vegan, you’re part of a culture that discriminates against you,” says Lisa Dey, the director of education at the nonprofit Food Not Bombs.
“You’re either part of the problem or part of an establishment that’s trying to help.”
When I spoke to Dey about her organization’s mission, I was reminded of the phrase “I am not a member of this club.”
As a vegan, I don’t belong in a club, and the word is a way to define who I am.
Dey says she wants to make sure the word has a more positive connotation.
“We want to be a resource for people who want to make their voices heard and be visible, so we’re trying to do a lot more outreach to our members to try to educate them about veganism and the importance of a vegan lifestyle,” she says.
“For example, I do a show every month called ‘The Veggie Show’ on the Vimeo channel where we try to get people talking about vegan diets.
It makes it easier for people to ask questions.”
The Veggie List and the Veggie Baking Show are two programs Dey has hosted for the past five years.
The shows are intended to promote veganism as a healthy lifestyle.
The show is available for free on Vimeo and Vimeo Plus.
The first show, called “The Vegan Show,” is hosted by a vegan chef from New York City named Alex Grosbard.
The Veggies are Vegan is a program Dey and Grosbards partner on, which is aimed at getting people talking with other vegans and people of color.
In addition to being able to connect with other people of all backgrounds, the shows also serve as an opportunity to talk about vegan issues.
“It’s not a show about the kitchen or the bath, but it’s about a way we can make a positive difference,” Dey explains.
The second show, “The Vegetable Baking List,” is created by a chef who has been cooking professionally for over 20 years and also has an interest in vegan cooking.
The recipes in the show are meant to be shared and shared often.
“I really want people to see it as a way they can learn about the recipes and learn to eat vegan,” says Dey.
“The show has really helped people learn about what they can do.”
Vegan Baking Shows are a way for people of diverse backgrounds to connect and talk about eating vegan, and Dey hopes they can help inspire people to make the change to veganism.
The Vegan List is a podcast hosted by Vegans Are People, a nonprofit that focuses on empowering people of different backgrounds to have more conversations and connect with each other.
In the podcast, guests are encouraged to share their own vegan cooking and to share stories about vegan food.
“One of the main reasons I started Vegan List was because we all want to share that with the world,” says Vegans are People’s co-founder and co-director, Lacey N. Seltzer.
“Vegans Are Weers, Vegan Lists, and Vegan Cooking Shows are all about giving back.
They are all part of our mission to make vegan food accessible to all people and inspire people of faith to get into veganism.”
The Vegan Bakers List is an online resource that gives people a platform to share recipes and ideas.
“Every recipe is shared in one of two ways: by people who are vegan, or by a list of recipes,” Seltner explains.
“And the recipe list is constantly updated, so people can discover new recipes and find out more about the vegan lifestyle.”
Seltzner says the aim of the Vegan List, which launched in September 2017, is to inspire people from all walks of life to start eating vegan.
It started out as a list on her website, and now she has more than 15,000 recipes on the site.
“As an advocate for veganism, I am always on the lookout for opportunities to reach people who may not know about the benefits of veganism,” she said.
“Whether it’s a new way of thinking about vegan cooking, learning about how vegan food is made, or sharing recipes for other recipes that are not vegan-friendly, I try to make it easy for people, even if they’re not vegans, to share with one another.” Vegans
