After nearly six years of making “The Walking Dead” spinoff “MTV,” creators Glen Mazzara and Robert Kirkman have come to an agreement to merge the popular hit show and a new film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The deal is subject to a number of conditions, including a minimum of 50 percent of the new film’s production budget and the release of the movie in 2018, which is a year after the “MTS” premiere.
According to THR, the two creators, who have made “The Walk” for a total of nine seasons and more than a billion viewers on television, also agreed to work together on a feature film about their beloved show, with Kirkman and Mazzaras penning the script.
The film will focus on the events of Season 10, the story of a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse.
It will be the first feature film directed by Mazzarras, with his “Gotham” and “Game of Thrones” co-writers Christopher Miller and Peter Debruge also producing.
“The Walking Out” stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Norman Reedus, Robert Carlyle, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Alyson Hannigan, and Michael Cera.
The “MST3K” franchise was a huge success, earning $1 billion worldwide.MTV recently announced plans to reboot “The MST3k” as a feature.
The network has also launched a Kickstarter campaign for a “The Last of Us” reboot.
